Dedicated to the great Philosopher and Theoretical Physicist,
Professor Stephen DeSilva
Yesterday ran away
To go and see Tomorrow,
So he could change bad to good
Before it brought more sorrow.
But on his way he saw Today
Reflecting on the past,
Asking how this thing called 'Now'
Disappears so fast.
But Yesterday could only say,
"I don't know what you mean,"
(cuz in past tense 'Now' makes no sense
and is nowhere to be seen.)
"Anyway," said Yesterday,
"So that I might persevere,
If you may lend, I'd need to bend
your sympathetic ear."
"See, I have had a rash of bad,
days of worry, doubt, and fear;
and the source of my deep felt sorrow
it seems to me is you, Tomorrow,
and that is why I'm here."
"Who, you say?" howled Today,
"That is not my name!
You're looking for the day next door,
don't mistake us as the same!"
"I'm Today, so go away,
I bring you not your sorrow.
Leave me be and go and see
that mysterious chap, Tomorrow."
Yesterday, without delay
Apologized to Today... -
"Pardon me - that just may be,
if that is what you say.
So sorry to have bothered you
I'll now be on my way."
The day of yore knocked on the door
To ask if he might borrow,
A minute from the day to come
The day known as Tomorrow...
Tomorrow knew just what to do
As he swung the door wide open,
In a flash he made a dash
And left Yesterday there mopin'.
'Now,' on his way to become Today
Sings this little song,
And with all his might wants to invite
You to sing along!
'Shun all regret, yet, never forget
To learn from mistakes in the past,
Then do shed your blue sorrow*
As you head for Tomorrow*
And live each moment as it were your last!'
*The last six syllables of each of these two lines form a six syllable rhyme!
